THE SYMBOL OF LIPARI

The symbol represents two Norman swords cutting the four winds and bolted in the center, creating a sea compass.
Originally created by nomadic refugees who banded together, stole Roman ships, and taught themselves to sail. According to legend, my ancestors descend from Liparo (grandson of Ulysses and the Sorceress Circe). They settled the Aeolian Islands and built what would become a major port city of the Carthaginian Empire, Lipari.
The symbol was popularized in the Baroque period, believed to have mystical powers of protection. The Symbol of Lipari historically signified well wishes for safe travels and speedy returns home. The symbol was prominently displayed on shields, armor and ships, as well as the homes the sailors, soldiers and travelers hoped to return to safely.
